Ready for Mother's Day?

Have you checked the Hallmark Channel lately? On the channel, there is a countdown for Mother's Day (Hallmark wants to ensure you spend money on their nicely written cards). But, are you ready? Whether its your biological mom, a spiritual mom, or a woman who has served as a mom to you, Mother's Day is an opportunity to express love and appreciation.

Unfortunately, as with most holidays, Mother's Day becomes commercialized with the last rush of purchasing flowers, gifts, teddys, jewelry, gift certificates and that dinner reservation. But, Mother's Day means much more. Traditionally, the origins of Mother's Day are steeped in Roman and English culture, where mothers were recognized and celebrated. In the United States, President Woodrow Wilson on May 9, 1914 officially proclaimed the 2nd Sunday of May, "Mother's Day". Although this quick history lesson is interesting, Mother's Day reminds us to appreciate each other and the gift of God through motherhood.

Don't Forget: Mother's Day is Sunday, May 9, 2010! :)
