QUEST Fall Semester 2011 Entry #19: "Halftime"

Today is September 15, 2011 and we are halfway through the month. As a college student, you may be getting accustomed to your schedule and campus life. You have reviewed the syllabus for the class, received your assignments or your first exam, and may be forming study groups. Socially, you are vetting the activities on campus and figuring out which one you should be a part of. Spiritually (in your relationship with Christ), how are you doing these days? It is important to take a HALFTIME moment.

What is HALFTIME? When you are watching the football or basketball game, the referees mark HALFTIME. The teams take the time to go back to the locker room, review their strengths and weaknesses, chart how they will proceed and set up an action plan to execute. HALFTIME also provides the players with a time to recharge and refuel. Applying the halftime concept to your relationship with Christ, it is important to pause and recharge. HALFTIME allows you the opportunity to look at yourself, what you need to adjust and seek God  in prayer on how to get there.

Here are some HALFTIME questions to ask:

(1) In the last 15 days, what have I intentionally done to draw closer to God? If nothing, why not?
(2) In the last 15 days, what relationships have I formed and/or strengthened?
(3) In the last 15 days, have I learned more about myself? If so, what?
(4) In the last 15 days, how have I balanced my time among all of my responsibilities? If not, how can I improve? If so, what can I do to continue?
(5) In the next 15 days, what can I do to draw closer to God?

You can ask some introspective questions that will get you thinking about...you. Too often, we don't take the time to reflect and ask the hard questions. Let's not wait...let's take HALFTIME. And remember, when you call HALFTIME in your life, Jesus is right there to coach you along!

Let Him have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you. - 1 Peter 5:7
